The next phase of our foray into the blogosphere at Clear Moves Inc., is to help all levels of companies capture candid feedback regarding productivity improvement and the training required of employees so they can do their jobs better.
For many, the topic might not be as exciting as joining a conversation about the latest version of Nintendo's Wii or on President Obama's proposed health care plan. But have you ever heard the saying 'when life imitates art?' Well, perhaps it is also true that 'life imitates blogging.' The story continues as follows.
One of my fundamental beliefs, is that a simple way for leaders to manage their priorities is to focus on the concept of always ensuring their employees get paid and I have written about this issue in the past. I don't mean by going over to the pay roll department to make sure the computer program is working, but if that's what is required of you in an emergency....!
Well, last week during a strategic planning session with the top executives of one of our key clients, the president referred back to that very same statement from the previous blog. No sooner had he finished his comments, when one of the other executives immediately responded by exclaiming: ' That is so true because the opposite just happened to a friend of mine! All the employee pay checks at her company just bounced.'
Now is it possible that front line workers, supervisors and managers might have seen the end coming? Is there a chance they had ideas on how the company could improve or help them get better at their day to day jobs? Common sense dictates yes, even though it does not guarantee they could have saved the company.
However, with a well thought out communication strategy to capture some critical feedback, who knows how they might have helped. This assumes individuals in decision making roles would have taken the time to listen, analyze and then execute effectively.
If you do not currently have a forum where you can be heard, you can always contribute on the Clarity Blog. And in the days ahead, Clear Moves will be focused on helping you and your company discuss performance improvement issues through social networking.
Have a great week,
Kevin
